A personal look at LTA technology
25 years of experience in working with blown forms
Can you catch something uncatchable? - quality control escapes ... I've been in the LTA business for over two decades, and speaking from experience, I can confidently say that it has been extremely challenging and interestingly surprising every step of the way. Any time I catch myself thinking that some technique or process is "in the bag", we stumble upon a new way to change it to work better. Our work has been a series of firsts - an ongoing experiment with only one thing in mind: the envelope has to fly! When it comes to quality control, I myself, as a specialist in the department, found that a quality escape is an imaginary metric and a good excuse, which I do not like to think about at all. But even when you make sure that you've tested and considered all production aspects, the uncatchable thing happens - something goes wrong, and in that moment, you only wonder why. And right after, how long will it take to start over if it's unfixable? It's very hard not to be human and disappointed at the time, but in order to finish the job, you have to pick up the pieces very quickly and salvage the rest. To achieve this, I've found that a quality control specialist should approach the production process holistically, taking at least a basic interest in every step of the way. The knowledge we have to have in this business is ever-evolving, and trying to catch the uncatchable, the elusive quality, is basically impossible. The only thing you can do is to elaborately prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
